I have been struggling with fn keys with my new HP laptop. In all (many) new HP laptops these key are mapped to action keys by default. Action Keys are nothing but special functional keys which can be used to up/down volume, brightness projector etc.

But if you want to use F1 key for Help you have to press Fn+F1. This is annoying at times. I checked with HP service center, they said i cannot be changed. i was shocked. Later i came to know from friend that it can be changed in bios settings. It was as simple as 1,2, 3..

follow this procedure

1. restart the pc

2. keep tapping ESC (or the key which takes you to bios settings )

3.go to system configurations

4. there find the Action Key Mode

5. Disable it

Are you getting this error?

I had struggled with this error for almost a week. I was using external dll, so i thought it must be permission error with that dll. But actually i was running my C# application from network mapped drive. I kept both dll and my exe on mapped drive x:
If application was running very well until the point where it refers the dll. I was throwing the

System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermissionSystem.Security.SecurityException

exeption.

So i copied both dll and exe to local machine it worked like a charm.. :)

My immediate solution is to copy all files to local machine. Ofcourse there are workaround for mapped drive problem. If anyone know about the workaround let me know.

Wi-Fi devices will soon be able to connect in a new way that makes it more simple and convenient than ever to do things like print, share and display. The Wi-Fi Alliance is nearing completion of a new specification to enable Wi-Fi devices to connect to one another without joining a traditional home, office, or hotspot network. The Wi-Fi Alliance expects to begin certification for this new specification in mid-2010, and products which achieve the certification will be designated Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct.

The specification, previously code-named "Wi-Fi peer-to-peer," can be implemented in any Wi-Fi device, from mobile phones, cameras, printers, and notebook computers, to human interface devices such as keyboards and headphones. Significantly, devices that have been certified to the new specification will also be able to create connections with hundreds of millions of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED legacy devices already in use. Devices will be able to make a one-to-one connection, or a group of several devices can connect simultaneously.

"Wi-Fi Direct represents a leap forward for our industry. Wi-Fi users worldwide will benefit from a single-technology solution to transfer content and share applications quickly and easily among devices, even when a Wi-Fi access point isn't available," said Wi-Fi Alliance executive director Edgar Figueroa. "The impact is that Wi-Fi will become even more pervasive and useful for consumers and across the enterprise."

The specification targets both consumer electronics and enterprise applications, provides management features for enterprise environments, and includes WPA2® security. Devices that support the specification will be able to discover one another and advertise available services. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct devices will support typical Wi-Fi ranges and the same data rates as can be achieved with an infrastructure connection, so devices can connect from across a home or office and conduct bandwidth-hungry tasks with ease.

The Wi-Fi Alliance plans to publish its peer-to-peer specification upon completion, and will begin certifying devices for the Wi-Fi Direct designation in 2010. Only Wi-Fi Alliance member companies will be able to certify devices to the new specification.

The best and the easy way to download Youtube videos is by using mozilla firefox flugin. It offers you options to choose from different resolution. If you are using iPhone or other similar phone which supports mpeg4, you dont need any converter at all. You can directly download mpeg4 videos which are 640x480 resolution from youtube and sync to iPhone.

I was frustrated by this error every time i run below code. I did a lot of googleing nothing worked. Even Microsoft said its a know issue we don't recommend this.

Then later just to try I just put one try catch block and it worked perfect. Till date i have not seen that error.

The latest iPhone OS 3.1.3 firmware updates the Baseband of your iPhone 3GS and 3G hence making it impossible to unlock these device using BlackSn0w installed via BlackRa1n. Fortunately iPhone 2G users are on the safe side in case of unlock because iPhone 2G Baseband remain intact while updating to iPhone firmware 3.1.3 (provided that you have jailbroken it previously at least once).

***So this guide is for iPhone 2G and those iPhone 3G users who do NOT care about unlocking.
***Read the guide first then try it at your own

Now that you’ve read the important part above, follow the simple step by step guide below to jailbreak iPhone 2G 3.1.3 firmware, jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.3 firmware (Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!)).

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 Firmware

Step 1

Download iTunes 9.0.3 and install it.
Download RedSn0w 0.9.3 (Windows): Mirror 1 | Mirror 2
Download RedSn0w 0.9.3 (Mac): Mirror 1 | Mirror 2
Download Firmware 3.1.3 for your device
Download Firmware 3.1.2 for your device (Yes, OS 3.1.2 aswell)
Download Bootloaders (for iPhone 2G unlock ONLY)

Extracted the RedSn0w & Bootloaders archive and put the them and firmware IPSW files (iPhone firmware 3.1.3 and iPhone firmware 3.1.2) into a folder on your desktop.

Step 2

Open the iTunes, select your device from the left navigation pane.

Hold down the SHIFT key on Windows or ALT key on Mac and hit the Restore button in iTunes. Navigate to the downloaded firmware 3.1.3 for your device and select the firmware file (.ipsw) and hit Open.

iTunes will start restoring your iPhone firmware to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Step 3

Once your iPhone is updates to OS 3.1.3, run the downloaded RedSn0w file.

Step 4

Hit the Browse button and provide it the downloaded firmware 3.1.2 file NOT 3.1.3 because RedSn0w 0.9.3 will not recognize iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Step 5

RedSn0w will verify your firmware file. Once done, hit the Next button.

Step 6 (for iPhone 2G users ONLY. Others please skip to Step 7)

To unlock iPhone 2G, select Install Cydia and Unlock options and provide the bootloader files.
If you just want to jailbreak iPhone 2G 3.1.3 then choose Install Cydia and hit next.

Step 7

On the next screen, check mark your desired options. For the purpose of this guide just choose Install Cydia and hit next. Select custom logos if you want them too. Hit Next.

Step 8

Read the on screen instructions to put your iPhone into DFU Mode.

Once you’ve entered into DFU Mode, RedSn0w will do its work and on successful completion, your iPhone will reboot.

You have successfully jailbreak iPhone 2G 3.1.3 and iPhone 3G 3.1.3.

We strongly recommend iPhone 3GS and 3G user to stay away from iPhone OS 3.1.3 until unless iPhone Dev Team or GeoHotz come up with updated jailbreak and unlock tool. However, you can alwaysjailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 using Custom Firmware, RedSn0w, PwnageTool, Sn0wBreeze, BlackRa1nand unlock iPhone OS 3.1.2 using UltraSn0w and BlackSn0w.

Convert currency to word in excel

There are plenty of online resources to convert Numeric currencies to Text- from $200 to Dollar Two Hundred.
But this is applicable only ###,###,### (comma at every third number)format. This is not suitable for India numbering system, because we follow ##,##,###(....22,22,222) format.

So I have create a excel function to over come this. You can use this function to to convert number up to 10,00,00,000(ten crores).

How to do it

Open Excel

Press Alt + F11

From Menu Bar Insert Module

Copy paste the This Module there.

Exit from VBA window by pressing Alt + F11 again

In excel sheet, Insert Function,

Under user defined find ConvertCurrencyToEnglish

select it and provide the number as a parameter

thats all you are done

iPad - the bigger iPod + 3g, will not sustain as iPhone did.

why, because,

Its neither laptop nor mobile phone.

You cannot use it as a mobile phone as there is no support for GSM SIM, if you use skype to make calls its difficult to carry everywhere you go as its huge to fit in your pocket, you need to carry it like a laptop in a carry case. And also you cannot replace your laptop with this iPad, it lacks laptop functionalities.

The biggest plus here is the Internet. Of course you can use it as a multimedia device. But, you can connect to internet only through Wi Fi or 3g (3g model) no GPRS or EDGE since it does not support standard SIM.

Since it uses iPhone OS, there is
No multitasking,
No flash,
No built in camera,
No standard USB
No File manager/Explorer

I use iPhone 2g with Bharthi Airtel in India. It Unlocked and jail broken. I had a problem in editing APN settings (GPRS/EDGE settings), in fact its intentionally done by Carrier. They are hidden; you will not be able see Cellular Data Network option under Settings-> General->Network-> Cellular Data Network

To enable or disable GPRS the only option, I think, is to change the settings here.

To do this all you need is

1. Jail broken iPhone with USB Cable

2. A PC

You don't have to worry about Wi-Fi or SSH or WinSCP or even Cydia Download.

The procedure –ITS VERY SIMPLE J

1. Download install iPhone explorer and plist editor for windows they are free and simple use

2. Connect you iPhone via USB cable (make sure your iTunes recognizes it)

3. Run iPhone explorer

Click on root. You will see a dialog box as shown bellow.

Select first option say OK

Browse to the carrier.plist as shown bellow

you see the changes done in second snap.

Edit the carrier.plist using plist editor and change as shown bellow

Add the following:

Optimize Your settings

Depending on how they are configured, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. For example, the frequency with which you retrieve email and the number of email accounts you auto-check can both affect battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iPhone 3.0 or later software and may help extend your battery life.

Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. To disable location services, go to Settings > General > Location Services or use location services only when needed.
Turn off push notifications: Some applications from the App Store use the Apple Push Notification Service to alert you of new data. Those applications that extensively rely on push notifications (such as instant messaging applications) may impact battery life. To disable push notifications, go to Settings > Notifications and set Notifications to Off. Note that this does not prevent new data from being received when the application is opened. Also, the Notifications setting will not be visible if you do not have any applications installed that support push notifications.
Fetch new data less frequently: Applications such as Mail can be set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals. The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. Note that this is a global setting and applies to all applications that do not support push services.
Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account such as Yahoo!, MobileMe or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push when you don’t need it. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive. If the global Fetch setting is set to Manually, you will not be able to locate your iPhone using the MobileMe Find My iPhone feature.
Auto-check fewer email accounts: You can save power by checking fewer email accounts. This can be accomplished by turning off an email account or by deleting it. To turn off an account, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose an email account, and set Account to Off. To remove an account, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose an email account, and tap Delete Account.
Minimize use of third-party applications: Excessive use of applications such as games that prevent the screen from dimming or shutting off or applications that use location services can reduce battery life.
Turn off Wi-Fi: If you rarely use Wi-Fi, you can turn it off to save power. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and set Wi-Fi to Off. Note that if you frequently use your iPhone to browse the web, battery life may be improved by using Wi-Fi instead of cellular data networks.
Turn off Bluetooth: If you rarely use a Bluetooth headset or car kit, you can turn off Bluetooth to save power. Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth and set Bluetooth to Off.
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Because your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, it may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turning on Airplane Mode can increase battery life in these situations; however, you will be unable to make or receive calls. To turn on Airplane Mode, go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On.
Adjust brightness: Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life. Go to Settings > Brightness and drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness. In addition, turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness and set Auto-Brightness to On.
Turn off EQ: Applying an equalizer setting to song playback on your iPhone can decrease battery life. To turn EQ off, go to Settings > iPod > EQ and tap Off. Note that if you’ve added EQ to songs directly in iTunes, you’ll need to set EQ on iPhone to Flat in order to have the same effect as Off because iPhone keeps your iTunes settings intact. Go to Settings > iPod > EQ and tap Flat.
Turn off 3G: Using 3G cellular networks loads data faster, but may also decrease battery life, especially in areas with limited 3G coverage. To disable 3G, from the Home screen choose Settings > General > Network and set Enable 3G to Off. You will still be able to make and receive calls and access cellular data networks via EDGE or GPRS where available.

Lock Your iPhone

It may seem obvious, but you should lock your iPhone when you aren’t using it. You will be able to receive calls and text messages while it is locked, but nothing happens if you touch the screen. To lock iPhone, press the Sleep/Wake button. You can also set the Auto-Lock interval so your iPhone will turn off more quickly after a period of inactivity. To set Auto-Lock, go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock and set the interval to a short time, such as 1 minute.

Any GPRS enabled mobile can be used to browse internet. Ofcourse functionalityu is limittted with lower end mobiles, like flash videos, high resolution photos, rich Internet content cannot be viewed in lower end mobiles.

What you have to do to enable GPRS on your mobile..

There are 2 ways you can do it(there may be many, but i know only 2)

first: (simple)

Just send an SMS to your service provider, it will be toll free. Or call customer care.

Second: Use this one if you are not able to do with the first step.

(this one is for airtel users you can use same steps with other operator too but with different values)

got to setting, -->Connectivty, -->

Data Communication, --> Data Accounts, -->

New Account, --> GPRS Data--> [give some name to that account for e.g. "GPRS Account"],

for APN enter " airtelgprs.com"

leave other things as it is.

this is your data account..

Next, Internet settings.

Under connectivity select Internet settings , -->Internet Profile, -->[give some name e.g. "AirtelLiVe"], --> for "connect using" select the data account just created, that is "GPRS Account".

use proxy : Yes

port number: 8080

and save
